Bamboo is biodegradable and one of the fastest-growing plants on earth. National Geographic recommends using a bamboo toothbrush to help to eliminate one of the most prevalent forms of plastic pollution.
Even though bamboo seems like a new environmentally friendly material, the earliest bristle toothbrushes were invented in China in the 15th century and featured bamboo handles.

The bare toothbrush handle can be disposed of in a commercial composting bin and will safely return to the soil within 6 months. Or you can compost it in your own home.
The bristles are not biodegradable and will need to be removed, however, the handle is a perfectly good piece of high-quality bamboo – feel free to reuse it!
